What are you expected to know before starting 6th grade-
Incoming 6th grades should have a good grasp of 5th grade Common Core Standards. If your child needs practice we recommend buying a 5th grade workbook and utilizing it this summer.

- Khanacademy.org- This FREE math website tests the skill level of your child and starts their individual learning program at the level that they are currently at. Students earn points and badges as they pass onto each math level. Great for struggling students and gifted students.
- interactivesites.weebly.com/math -This FREE website is full of 6th grade concepts presented in a fun way!!!!! Get your child ahead and prepared for the upcoming school year!!!
- www.adaptedmind.com- Choose a grade level, work at your pace, build a fun monster as you learn. There are videos to teach the concept if a student gets stuck on a problem. The website does offer a free 30 day trial
- www.ipracticemath.com- This FREE website is kind of dry but it does offer standards based problems, answers and definitions
- mathplayground.com- This FREE math website is full of games. Pick a grade and a concept and have fun.
- mathcounts.org- Resources for math competitions
English Language Arts - (websites to prepare for 6th Grade)
Refer to 6th Grade Common Core Standards to see what 6th Graders are learning.
How to help your child succeed in 6th Grade: 1) Your child should be in their seat by 7:50 to have breakfast and avoid being tardy. 2) Check your child’s agenda daily to be aware of all homework assignments. 3) Check tests weekly. 4) Check on your child’s progress via email or Schoology. 5) Make sure the office has your correct phone number. 6) Be aware that report cards are mailed every 5 weeks. 7) Attend the meetings with the principal, once a month. 8) Expect your child to be sent home with parental information from the school on a weekly or bi-monthly basis 9) Make sure your child has their supplies and if you cannot get certain materials email your child’s teacher. 10) Volunteer to be a part of our Parent Committee and/or Volunteer to attend field trips. If we do not have parental help, we cannot go. 11) If there is something happening at home that we should be aware of, please let us know. 12) Be aware of our after school programs: K.Y.D.S, after school tutoring in the library, sports, and after school clubs. |

6th Grade Suggested Supplies
(These supplies should last for the whole semester)
- 6 - 8 composition notebooks (single subject)
- 2 packs (minimum) of Paper
- At least 4 glue sticks (some teacher allow tape)
- Pencil pouch
- Erasers
- Mini stapler
- At least 2 packs of pencils
- At least 4 Pens (blue/black + one other color)
- At least 1 highlighter
- Backpack
- 2 packs of post its
- 1 box of crayons or colored pencils
- Ruler
